Joan Warner (nee Murray) was born to Helen and Joe Murray in Lamont, AB, after a lengthy sleigh ride during a record snowfall. It was April 15th, 1935 - three months after the birth of Elvis Presley, three months prior to that of the Dalai Lama. Joan grew up (without several modern conveniences) alongside her younger sisters Jean and Joy, and her baby brother Larry. Their wee two bedroom farmhouse sat about halfway between Tofield and Mundare, at the north end of Beaverhill Lake. Except for a couple of health-related stints (asthma) in BC, that farm was home until she married Alan Warner, after which she moved into the massive old Warner house (with a cistern, running water, a ringer-washer and a gas furnace!) three miles north of Tofield. Together, Joan & Alan would raise three kids (Mike, Lynn and Jim), create thousands of memories and share a million laughs before retiring and moving into Tofield about 20 years ago. Joan passed away in Tofield on October 11, 2018 at the age of 83 years.
Joan was pre-deceased by Alan in 2003.
She leaves to mourn, and celebrate her life: son Mike (Cindy) and children Daniel & Julianne; daughter Lynn (Francis) Damberger and children Sarah (Praveen), Emily, and Joe; son Jim (Victoria) and the dynamic duo: Griffon & Harry; sister Jean (Arno) Binder, sister Joy (George) Lukasiewich, and brother Larry (Gwen) Murray; a houseful of especially dear nieces, nephews, and "Extras"; as well as many, many lifelong and newfound friends.
A memorial service celebrating Joan's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 19, 2018 at the Tofield United Church with Rev. Adam Hall officiating. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Tofield United Church Memorial Fund.
