Bruce Malcolm Fraser

Bruce was born in 1951 in Lacombe, AB, the second of eight children of Bob and Helen Fraser.  He grew up on the Joffre family farm and attended Satinwood School, and Lacombe Composite High. He then went to Canadian Nazarene College, and obtained both a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s Degree in Ag Engineering from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg.  He received a gold medal for highest marks.

Bruce met Mae Smith in 1976 directing a Vacation Bible School together. He was only home for one week and within that week they knew they were meant for each other, and married one year later.  Their first home was Winnipeg, but a year and half later they returned to the family farm and farmed for 11 years.  They had four children there.  In 1990 Bruce sold the farm and re-trained as an accountant.  He earned another gold medal form the University of Lethbridge for his mgt. degree in accounting.  Bruce received his C.A. in 1995 working for the Provincial Auditor General, Edmonton.  From 1996 he found accounting work in Camrose, and worked 5-6 years each in three places: Dey Fossen Harberg Nikiforuk & Wood; Augustana University; and Ross Agri.  For the last six years of his accounting career he audited condo’s at Cass & Fraser in Edmonton.

To family and friends he was known as “Faithful Bruce” and was loved and respected for his quiet, gentle kindness and generosity.  He had an amazing sense of humour and made many feel at ease, safe, and loved.  Bruce passed away gently and went to be with his Lord on November 8, 2018 at the age of 67 years.

He is deeply missed by his wife, Mae; children Carolyn (Thomas), Lisa (Andrew), Jon (Candice), and Sam (Laurie); grandchildren Cara, Connor, Maxwel, and Dante;  siblings Linda (Deb), Kathy (Kit), Robert, George (Donna), Sheila, and Heather.  He is also fondly remembered by his Cass & Fraser work family, and his honorary daughter, Shinyi. He was predeceased by his parents Bob and Helen Fraser; sister Susan; brother-in-law Derek Liebenberg.

A funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Solid Rock Lutheran Church, in Camrose, AB.  Interment will follow at the Daysland Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation—Cross Cancer Institute.
