EDMUND MERCER

         Edmund Mercer was born to John Stanley and Annie Mercer on September 20, 1919 in Coley’s Point, Newfoundland. On September 30, 1948 he married Annie Jean  Bowering and together they had two children Ruth and David; grandchildren Katherine, Richard, Jacqueline, John and Kenneth; great-grandchildren MacKenzie, Wesley, Jacob, Gabriella, Oliver, Jordan, Levon and Charlotte.

 

        At thirteen years of age he fished during the summer with his family in Holton, Labrador.  At 21 he moved to St. John’s to work as a carpenter.  He was an employee at the Royal Stores and later at VOCM radio station.  He helped with live broadcasts of  Sunday morning services from several churches in St. Johns.

 

       At the age of 19 he gave his life to the Lord and was involved  in voluntary church service until he moved from St. John’s to Camrose, Alberta in 2016.  He served many years on church boards, assisted in leading the services and in leading singing for the radio broadcast.  The Old Old Story produced by Elim Pentecostal Tabernacle.  He also taught Sunday School.

 

      He enjoyed trouting, salmon fishing, hunting moose, rabbits and partridge.  Many enjoyable hours were spent at the cabin on the Witters Bay Line with family and friends.  He loved to read, watch sports on television, especially his favorite teams the Maple Leafs and Blue Jays.

 

     On Saturday morning December 29, 2018, he went to be with his Lord.  He passed away at the St. Mary’s Hospital in Camrose, Alberta following a short illness.  Left to mourn loving wife Jean, daughter Ruth Murray, son David Mercer ( Judy ),  sisters Mabel Upshall (Gerald), and Annie Carter (Eric), sister in law Ruth Bowering (Gerald), grandchildren Katherine  Murray, Richard Mercer (Vanessa), Jacqueline Lewsaw (Landon), John Murray (Lorri), and Kenneth Mercer, and eight great-grandchildren Mackenzie, Wesley, Jacob, Gabriella, Oliver, Jordan, Levon and Charlotte and family friend John Murray.

 

      Edmund was predeceased by his parents, brothers Albert, Lewis, Lester, Jack and Bill; sisters Mary, Grace, Florence and Barbara.

 

     A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 31, 2018 at Weber's Mount Pleasant Chapel in Camrose with Pastor Lewis Smith officiating.  Interment will take place at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 7, 2019 at the Valleyview Cemetery in Camrose.
