ELMER "KEN" HEISTAD

Date: October 22nd, 2017

Elmer Kenneth Heistad, known by most as Ken, was born March 9, 1936 in Veteran, Alberta to Benjamin and Christine Heistad. Ken was the second of five children, 3 brothers and 1 sister. Ken grew up on a farm where his love of horses began at an early age.

Ken accepted Christ as a child and followed the Lord throughout his life. After school he attended Bible College in Eston, Saskatchewan where he met his future wife, Verna Welsh.

On July 27, 1957, Ken and Verna were married. They moved to Coronation, Alberta where Ken began working for Alberta Treasury Branches. A short time after, they moved to Edmonton where they welcomed their first child, Pamela.

Ken continued to work as a banker and as a branch manager his job took him to various places across Alberta.

While living in Stoney Plain, their second daughter, Patricia,      was born.

Although weekdays were usually spent at the bank, Ken and Verna spent their weekends on the farm where Ken enjoyed working with horses and helping with cattle drives.

After retirement, Ken and Verna moved to Tofield, Alberta where their daughter Patty and son-in-law Len were farming. Ken became a grandfather to six grandchildren, Chad and Blaire Katunar and Megan, Kyle, Ryan and Justin Koop.

Ken enjoyed spending his free time gardening, curling and breaking horses. He always loved spending time with family. He enjoyed being on the farm and traveling to visit family in British Columbia. Ken had a strong belief in the Lord, always attending church no matter where his job took him. His faith was always evident in the way he lived his life.

He will be greatly missed by surviving family, including his wife Verna with whom he recently celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 28, 2017 at the Tofield Alliance Church in Tofield, AB, with Pastor Cal Andringa officiating. Cremation will take place following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinsons Society.

Thank you to Dr. Slabbert and the nursing staff at Bethany Meadows in Camrose for their compassionate care for Ken, it  was much appreciated.
