William "Joe" Davenport of Tofield, AB, formerly of Ministik, AB passed away on January 13, 2018 at the age of 92 years.

He is survived by his wife Eva; daughters Phyllis Theberge, Doris Davenport, and Lorraine (Dean) Mason; grandchildren Dustin (Sarah) Theberge, Robyn Theberge, Courtney Mason, and Denver Mason; and one great grandchild Amy Theberge.

He was predeceased by his sisters Lillian and Nell.

Joe was born on the farm where he spent almost his entire life. He went to Ministik school with people who became the community that he worked and played in and later raised his family in. He completed grade 11 then worked the farm with his dad. On weekends, he played baseball and hockey and attended dances, often by bicycle. It was at dances in Looma that he would eventually meet Eva Blackburn.

They married on October 18, 1956, settled on the farm, and started their family: Phyllis, Doris and Lorraine. When his dad retired, Joe took over the family farm. He worked hard but always took time on Sundays for church and family time, often at the ball diamond or skating rink. He stayed active in his later years taking up curling and cross country skiing. The girls were his helping hands, learning to love the land just as he did. He kept busy on hobbies like woodworking and puzzles. And he always had a family pet at his side. He especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren: Dustin, Robyn, Courtney and Denver and welcomed his first great grandchild, Amy.

But the farming life would take its toll and in August 2015, Joe moved into the Tofield Lodge and later, the Tofield Long Term Care Centre and became a favourite to all the staff. He continued to do puzzles and watched many sporting events. He was able to go home to the farm often and celebrated many occasions including this past Christmas. His family is thankful for these special times and will treasure many memories.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 22, 2018 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Sherwood Park, AB with Father Joe Glaab OFM. Interment will take place at Cooking Lake Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Tofield and Area Health Foundation - Long Term Care.
