Edward "Eddie" Bochon

On January 26, 2018 Eddie passed away in the Tofield Hospital after a long, hard fight and struggle with dementia.  Ed was 84 years old, his birthday was August 28, 1933.  His early life was complicated as Eddie's Dad contracted tuberculosis at an early age and Ed would stay with his Aunty Kate and Uncle Joe Sawak on their farm at Heinsburg, Alberta.  He went back to his home in Myrnam, Alberta where his Mom, brothers and sisters lived but he made the decision to permanently move in with his Aunt and Uncle.  Aunty Kate & Uncle Joe, having only one son, welcomed small, young Eddie into their life and that's where he lived until they retired in 1966.

Ed met Arlene Glowitski, of the Landonville area, and they were married in 1957.  Ed and Arlene welcomed three children:  Lynn in 1958, Ivy in 1962 and Dale in 1964.  After his Aunt and Uncle sold the farm, Ed and his young family moved to Vermilion, Alberta where Ed got a job with Canada Post.    Ed worked with the Post Office for over 22 years, and took an early retirement at the age of 55.  Ed and Arlene enjoyed their retirement years out at the family cottage at Laurier Lake and split their time between their home in Sherwood Park in the winter and the lake in the summer.  They enjoyed their time out at the lake welcoming family and friends.  Ed would help local farm friends with their harvest in the fall and also enjoyed picking wild berries, mushrooms, gardening, fishing, going to auction sales and collecting antiques.   Ed also liked to cook, and when Arlene got home from work, supper was always ready.   Arlene also handed the chocolate chip cookie baking to Ed as she always burned her cookies.   Ed was a good father to Lynn, Ivy and Dale and he was always there for his wife Arlene.

Eddie Bochon is survived by his wife Arlene and they were married for over 60 years.  He is survived by his daughter Lynn (Doug) Lizuck of Phoenix, Arizona, daughter Ivy (Norman) Duffy of South Cooking Lake, Alberta, and son Dale of Hastings Lake, Alberta.  Ed is also survived by five grandchildren:  Anika, Shelby, Kelsey, Brandyn and Hannah; as well as his brother Ron (Ruth).  Ed was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Nancy Bochon; aunt & uncle, Joe and Kate Sawak; brothers Paul and Clarence; sisters Olga and Adeline; brothers-in-law Paul Walchuk and Wilfred Schmidek.  Ed is also predeceased by his special nephew Kevin Bochon.

A memorial luncheon will take place for Ed Bochon at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the Tofield Royal Canadian Legion Hall in Tofield, Alberta.   A graveside service will be held in the Vermilion Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society, or to Tofield Home Care.
