Richard “Dick” Guntrip of Camrose, AB was born on February 16, 1931 to Alice and Arthur Guntrip.  He passed away February 8, 2018 after a lengthy battle with C.O.P.D.

Dick grew up working long hours on the family farm near Bawlf, AB.  His early education began in a one room school, and he completed high school from Bawlf.  Dick attended the University of Alberta in 1950 and this is where he began his lifelong career of teaching. In 1963 he graduated from his major in Biological Sciences.  He taught at the Camrose Composite High School for fifteen years. He also had a passion for coaching Basketball and Baseball. He also taught at numerous schools throughout Alberta. His last years of teaching were done at several remote schools in Northern Alberta. It was work which he found to be immensely rewarding.

Dick also worked for the Alberta Teachers Association as a salary negotiator.  Dick was active in the Kinsmen Club, Lions Club, and was the Wagon-master for the Good Sams RV Club.  Dicks hobbies included photography, fishing, wood-working, and travelling.  He especially enjoyed Alaska, Arizona, British Columbia, the Grand Cayman Island, and New York.

Dick was a great story teller, a dedicated and generous husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  His family always came first in his life, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. We will all sadly miss him. Peace be with him.

Left to cherish their memories of Dick are his devoted wife of 64 years, Betty (nee Urlacher); three sons, Jeffrey (Nancy) of Drumheller, AB, Bradley (Vernus) of 108 Mile Ranch, B.C., and Graham (Crystal) of Camrose, AB; sister Beryl (Joe) Heidorn of Albany, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren;  also daughters-in-law Brenda Ozment and Colleen Lindholm; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

Dick was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Alice; one infant brother; and all his aunts and uncles.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Weber’s Mount Pleasant Chapel in Camrose, AB with Rev. David Eriksson officiating.  Cremation has taken place and inurnment will take place at the Bawlf Cemetery on a later date.  Memorial donations may be made to S.T.A.R.S. or to the charity of one’s choice.
