Alice Munkedal

Obituary of Alice Mae Munkedal

Alice Mae Munkedal (McGinitie) was born January 13, 1931 in Tofield, Alberta; she passed away at the Tofield Health Centre on April 11, 2021 at the age of 90 years.  Alice started courting Eric prior to taking hairdressing training at Marvel Hair College in Edmonton.  Eric would often drive to the city and take her out on dates, which included overlooking the city on Connor’s Hill, movies and dinner.  They also enjoyed their dances at Lindbrook Hall.

She opened her own hairdressing shop in Tofield at the age of 17 and was very proud of her accomplishments and often shared many stories.

Alice married the love of her life Eric Munkedal on October 28, 1952 and together they became “Two Peas In A Pod”.  In April 1953, Alice sold her hairdressing shop when Eric became her life-long partner. She was committed to becoming a farm wife and had hopes of soon raising a family. Their first farm was just a few miles north of Ryley where Rodney and Elaine were born. Later they moved to the Munkedal family farm upon Eric’s dad’s (Soren Munkedal) passing.  Alice and Eric enjoyed going to the mountains, fishing, and dancing when they could spare time away from the farm.

Family was always important to Alice.  She did her best to bring everyone together for the holidays and was a master chef in the kitchen.  She always acknowledged her Irish Heritage by organizing a special day on St Patrick’s Day, which included green beer and listening to Irish music.

Alice is survived by her five children:  Rodney, Elaine (Lloyd), Karen, Charlotte, Warren (Tammy); ten grandchildren:  Chris (Jacinthe), Ramona (Josh), Dalene, Alicia (Joe), Curtis, Breanna (Jamie), Dustin (Brandi), Brittany, Brooklyne, Katelyn; and 13 great grandchildren; as well as numerous friends, nieces, nephews, cousins and sister-in-law Ruth Bekker.

Alice was predeceased by her husband Eric; her parents Henry and Agnes McGinite; as well as her brothers Harvey, Donnelly and Raymond.

The funeral was held at 1:00 p.m., April 22, 2021 at Bardo Lutheran Church. Interment has taken place at the Tofield Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation - Cross Cancer Institute, or to the Tofield and Area Health Foundation, or to Bardo Lutheran Church.
