HANS EMIL CHRISTENSEN
FEBRUARY 23, 1916. - NOVEMBER 6, 2020
The noteworthy life of Hans Christensen, spanning a remarkable 104+ years, ended peacefully at Tofield Long Term Care facility on November 6th.
Hans was a dedicated husband and father, active community member and WWII veteran. He and his late wife, Winnie, provided a loving home and constant advice and encouragement to their children, to which all three will unanimously attest. Hans was well known as the local electrician and was instrumental in the electrification of the rural area in the early 1950s. He was actively involved in many community organizations, including one and one half terms on Town Council. His keen financial acumen enhanced his position as Treasurer for the Royal Canadian Legion, Tofield Agricultural Society, Tofield Community League and Tofield United Church. Hans was a man of few words, preferring simply "to get it done" and few community projects did not bear his handprint. As a war veteran, he was a strong supporter of the Tofield Legion Branch 91 and received the Meritorious Service Medal in 2016 in recognition of his contributions.
He was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Winnie, and will be deeply missed by his three children, Sonja Lindsay, June Christensen, Tom Christensen (Kim McLean) and three grandchildren, Laura, Dan and Brian Christensen.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the excellent care and attention he received over the past few years at the Tofield Seniors Lodge, Bethany Meadows in Camrose and Tofield Extended Care.
Due to Covid 19 protocols, a private family service will be held. Interment will take place at the Tofield Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Tofield United Church or charity of choice.
